As of June 30, 2005, insulated foam panels containing polyisocyanurate (polyiso) or polyurethane foam core are to be fabricated from material complying with the Environmental Protection Agencies (epa) new mandate.  This mandate requires these materials to be formed without the use of chlorofluorocarbon (cfc) or hydrochlorofluorocarbon (hcfc) blowing agents.  To comply with this and the Clean Air Act, Protean's new polyiso foam core is produced with hydrocarbon (pentane) blowing agents which have no ozone depleting and no global warming potential.

Although this foam core is the new "environmentally friendly, green, non polluting, hcfc free, stratospheric ozone friendly" product, thermal conductivity values are unfortunately temporarily diminished but are expected to improve soon.  Currently all of the polyiso producers have converted to hydrocarbon blowing agents and all are striving to improve K and R factors.  None of these producers are allowed to sell the "old" product after June 30, 2005.

If you have any questions regarding the "next generation" polyisocyanurate foam core panels, please feel free to contact Protean for additional information and material updates.
