Extruded Aluminum Sunscreens are constructed using
a variety of extruded aluminum shapes assembled with
welded construction and post painted to the specified
finish. The assembly can consist of stock shapes such
as aluminum bars, tubes angles or channels or can
be totally custom with shapes such as foils, fins
or blades. Whatever the required shape, the extrusions
are engineered to withstand design loads and provide
maximum span capabilities. These systems are custom
designed to meet each projects design requirement.
If the extrusion you are looking for does not exist,
Protean will have custom dies cut to meet your design
intent. There are limitations to die sizes so contact
Protean for availability. Aluminum is preferred due
to its weight and strength properties and is paintable
after assembly, however, primed steel supports concealed
within the aluminum extrusions are common when spans
exceed material and assembly limitations.
Attachment
Extruded aluminum sunscreens are most commonly attached
to the building structure using custom designed aluminum
retainers or outriggers. These elements can also be
stiffened with primed steel if span requirements exceed
material limitations. These assemblies can be attached
directly to the building structure, curtainwall, sub-framing,
or other building cladding material. Each design is
engineered to insure structural stability and compliance
with design load requirements.
Finishes
- Extruded aluminum assembly available in spray
applied 70% Kynar 500 finishes
- Anodized finishes are also available, however,
welds will be visible and may be discolored compared
to extruded aluminum due to variances in alloys
